FRIENDS of EAGLE VALLEY is a brand new fund raising membership scheme launched by Arnold Town FC's new Commercial Department in the Summer of 2009. The aims of the scheme are fairly simple, and two fold:-
1 - To increase the overall membership of our Club at its new Eagle Valley home
2 - To provide much needed funds to help push the Eagles onwards and upwards towards Unibond football.
SO NEAR YET SO FAR
Whilst Arnold Town/FC/Kingswell/St Marys have never been relegated in our entire history we've also never been able to quite make it to the 'promised land' ....the NPL / Multipart / HFS/ Unibond (call it what you will)
During the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s Arnold FC (The Saints) of the Midland League never had a ground suitable to gain entry into the newly formed Northern Premier League.
Later, in 1985/86, the Club were crowned NCEL Premier League Champions but again a combination of council owned Gedling Road's deficiencies, poor finances and a general lack of infra-structure served to hold Arnold back.
Instead 1986/87 saw Arnold take a disasterous step backwards into the Central Midlands League. A move that, with hindsight, was almost suicidal.
The lack of infra-stucture behind the scenes continued and 1989 brought about the merger between Arnold FC and Arnold Kingswell to become Arnold Town - The Eagles. Thankfully the merger was a successful move and the situation off-field certainly improved.
The early 1990s saw the new club, Arnold Town re-gain some lost ground and the Eagles finally left the CML behind to return to 'more or less' where our story began ....the NCEL.
Nearly two decades on and the Eagles are STILL toiling away at the same level of the pyramid. The only problem is a whole new rung has since been put in place above us and twenty teams have now waved at us on their way past Step 5 and up the football ladder.
That most certainly is a highly simplified summing up of the past thirty years or so. We all know tt was always far more complicated than that. Largely due to our dear old Gedling Road Ground. Some years the NPL officialdom would say 'no chance' other years, when they needed a club to make up the numbers, they would say 'maybe'. Then on the rare occasion (usually when we were near the bottom end of the table) they would say 'just win the league lads and you're in'.
Thankfully those sort of complications are 'largely' at an end. We now have our new fully enclosed home at Eagle Valley. It may not yet have passed the Unibond guidelines BUT IT WILL DO.
WE ARE NOW DEFINITELY IN A POSITION TO GO TO THE PROMISED LAND.
THE FRIENDS OF EAGLE VALLEY SCHEME IS DESIGNED TO ALLOW EVERYONE WITH ARNA'S INTERESTS AT HEART TO PLAY THEIR PART GETTING US THERE......
